By: Natural Beauty Mobile Tan | Posted on: 15/07/2010 09:05

Hi there, I'm a mobile technician and just started out a few months ago. I've found I don't feel that well after spray tanning. Tight chest, cough, sore throat. I don't have an extractor fan, which I am going to order today. I have also just started to wear a masque, but I am really worried that Im an illergic to the solution. Will an extractor fan prevent these symtonsi Does anyone know of anyone feeling ill after tanning etci I'd be so disappointed if i have to give it up as I've just started and its going really well. Thanks Kerrie

I had a few days where I've felt chesty after spray tanning. Like you I didn't wear a mask or have an extractor fan! Now that I use both (mask & Extractor) it's alot better. The only thing I find now is that my throat gets really dry if I'm doing a party of 4+ one right after another, but that could just be my constant chatter! Been spraying for 3 years now and I'm still standing!

Hi - I used to suffer from tonsilitis more when I first started as I didnt always use my eXtraction unit. . However, I always use it but I spray so much finer now too! This has improved greatly. I dont where a mask unless I have a cold. . . Good way to check is how much goes up your nose the neXt day! Touching wood not had a sore throat for years! Bought the typhoon fan a few months ago as my old one was on it's last legs. . It's fab and so much easier to clean and is lighter too! Would recommend it! X

Hi Rebecca I know its awful. I actually went to the doctors as my throat was burning and inflamed the other week. He said it was Flarengitis and gave me antibiotics. It was only when I went to get my legs waxed that my therapist asked me if i wear a mask as its really bad for you not to. When I explained what had been happening to me she said one of the girls had to give it up as she used to get so bad when spraying clients. I just hope the fan and mask help as I don't want to have to give it up! ! I've just bought myself an extractor fan on line here - the Typhoon one. I'll defo be using it all the time, even just for 1 person and see if it helps! Well, good luck at the doctors, but I'm sure its the spray tanning causing it. Invest in a fan and see if there's an improvement. Fingers crossed too Kerrie

This can be a problem for Spray techs. There is a few things you can do. . . It is very important to have extraction and good ventilation. By health and safety you HAVE to have extraction in a salon. All equipment gives off over spray, you have air pressure and a fine liquid pushing through a small needle. Salon insurance is invalid if a customer or member of staff makes a claim. So the same applies with mobile. If you are just doing the odd spray, then the cheaper turbines will be fine, but if you are busy, then it makes sense to invest in good quality equipmet. When spraying try not to stand too close as spray can bounce off the customer. And if you feel sensative to solution. Do wear a mask. If you have a room for tanning, open a window, if you have one. Some salons and mobile expect the extraction fans to work just placed on the floor in a small room, or put into a cubicle with out the flap in the back. This will not work. The fans suck in over spray and the spray is caught on the filter, at the front, which needs to be re-placed ever so often or the new fans have washable filters, which must be washed at the end of each day ( otherwise it will stop the fan from doing its job)Then the air which is sucked in will blow out of the back. So if a fan is placed in a tent with no vent flap, or just placed on the floor of a small room it will blow all the overspray about, The proper cubicles work with the fans, or a salon can buy a larger extraction unit or invest in a cubicle. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much Golden Girls. I ordered my fan yesterday and now wear a mask. I'll also start offering clients masks too. Thanks again Kerrie
